#2: Create your sacred bundle

If you want to own your calling and grow your impact

It’s easy to tell others to find and tell their Tiny Stories, but the reality is – when you’re a leader with a serious mission, knowing what stories to share and figuring out when to share them can feel hard and intimidating.

One of the most powerful tools I use to help you through this, however, is called The Sacred Bundle.

In Native American cultures, the sacred bundle was a collection of items that represented and preserved the most important parts of a tribe’s history, values, and identity.

A tribe might include small objects like feathers, animal bones, dishes, pipes, and more, and during special events and ceremonies, tribal leaders would unpack these items from the sacred bundle and share stories about them with the rest of the tribe.

The sacred bundle was one of the most important cultural pieces in a Native American tribe, and the tribe recognized the power of story to hold a tribe together.

In the 1990s, management and organizational consultant Peg Neuhauser began to encourage organizations to create their own sacred bundles. She believed that it was a powerful way to define and pass on your values, your culture, your mission, and more. I couldn't agree more.

Stories of belief: What are the non-negotiable values we live by? What stories prove we live these out?

Stories of legacy: What stories will people share about us when I’m no longer here?

Stories of calling: What are we doing that no one else can do?
